In this section we will place requests from REPA members and others as well as announcements of importance to our membership. If you are looking for an EAL employee, relaying sickness status, seeking information of EAL history, announcing reunions and other general requests, this would be the page to post such messages. Please send your request to Jim Holder via the contact information on the Contact Us page of this website, and it will be posted.

Dear former Eastern Airlines employees:

Greetings. I am a freelance writer seeking information regarding an incident that involved Eastern Airlines at the Philadelphia Int'l Airport. The incident occurred in the 70s, I believe in the early 70s, perhaps 1972.

The incident involved a disgruntled Eastern Airlines passenger whose pet dog died while on an Eastern flight from PHL. He sued Eastern in court but apparently lost. Undeterred, he extracted revenge on Eastern by attacking a 727 that was parked at an Eastern gate in Philly. He poured gallons of black paint all over the cockpit and then hacked up the plane's exterior with an ax causing millions of dollars in damage. The man was subsequently arrested by the airport police.

My hope is to write a magazine article regarding this bizarre event; the article would appear in a future edition of /Airliners/ magazine. Although I know the gist of this story, I am seeking any and all personal recollections of this event, as well as any newspaper clippings and/or photos.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Proper credit will be given to any photos or published materials.

Thanks in advance for any assistance that you can provide!
Sincerely:

Hello, I am trying to find out any information on EAL's Hall of Fame, of which my late father (W.C. Bonner out of Mia.) was a member. If you or anyone you might know could help it would be appreciated very much. I don't even know why he was inducted into the Hall of Fame. I know he worked there from the early 40"s to the 1970's. A picture is attached,
Thanks, Don Bonner

Jasmine

Hello,

I found your name and email address on the Eastern Airlines Employee listing. I am doing a genealogic search of my family history and am hoping to find someone who may have known John Adams Whitley III, a pilot with Eastern Airlines out of Miami in 1966.

John Whitley was married to Mary. They had a daughter named Anna, and a son who went by either John or Jack.

If you know anything about J.A. Whitley, and could help me, please reply to this email or feel free to telephone collect to 802-722-3119.

Thank you for your time,
Jasmine

We later did some searching for Jasmine and discovered that the correct name apparently is Adam John Whitley III, as we had a Captain A. J. Whitley, who hired on at Eastern on March 28, 1955 and on December 2, 1974, he was holding a bid in Miami as a Captain on the DC-9… Per ALPA HQ he took a Medical Retirement sometime in 1977 and perhaps moved to Spain…. Anyone who even knew Captain Whitley is requested to contact Jasmine at the above EM address…
