Folks….

A large crowd was on hand to hear Guest Speaker Jim Towne (son of Eastern Captain Paul Towne) deliver an excellent 30 minute A/V show on his dad’s wartime experience as a B-17G PIC…

And in later life perform an impossible feat by safely landing an Eastern 1011 that lost a second engine on a Two Engine Ferry take-off at Mexico City…. This in February 1964…

Afterwards we had a nice session of comments and such about what happened in Mexico City…

As Guests we had Marie Towne, Jim’s wife and Carrie Holder, my wife…

We did have time for the Door Prize Drawings which result in;

$15.00 won by Ernie Boetz
$10.00 won by Ernie Boetz (this is not a typo)
$  5.00 won by Charlie Brown

DVD movie “Sully” donated by Jerry Frost and won by Jim Holder

The photo you see above, (Jim Holder on left and Jim Towne on right) was captured from a cell phone movie of the presentation recorded by Jim Towne…

Excellent Slide Show at the January 9th Atlanta REPA Luncheon!!!

Folks….

We are having a special treat at the January 9th Atlanta REPA Luncheon…

Mr. Jim Towne, son of Eastern Captain Paul Towne, will present a Slide Show of about 30 Slides, the first part regarding his dad’s 50 missions in a B-17G during WWII…

Following that he will give us (again via Slides) an extensive presentation of what Captain Towne and his crew did when, on February 9, 1974, they lost a second engine, just at lift off, on a Two Engine L-1011 Ferry flight out of Mexico City, the aircraft being Tail Number 318, sometimes known as the Ghost Ship!

Jim has asked me to assist him in this presentation and after about two weeks of practice we believe that this show will be of great interest to all…

We also will be collecting 2018 REPA Dues at the Luncheon, preferably by check… Remember that the Dues are $40.00 for Regular Members and $35.00 for Affiliates…

As usual we will be meeting at the Piccadilly Cafeteria located at 2449 Godby Road, College Park, GA 30349, just east of Old National Highway, just south of I-285…

We start arriving at 11:00 AM when they open and the program starts about noon…

Hope to see you there!

Good Luncheon in Atlanta yesterday!

Folks…..

Good Turnout yesterday for the Atlanta REPA Luncheon!

We had as a first timer Jim Towne, son of Eastern Captain Paul Towne….

As reported last week Jim will be our speaker in January (9th) where he will present an A/V about his father making the L-1011 two engine ferry out of Mexico City in February 1974, which did not end as planned!

Mark your calendar as it will be a fine presentation…

After a round of jokes and stories, some actually funny, we had the usual drawing with the winners shown below…

First Prize of $15.00 won by Brian Settles, Second of $10.00 claimed by Sandy McCulloh and $5.00 pocketed by Charlie Brown…

Special Message about December and January Atlanta REPA Luncheons

Folks……

Shade late on the Atlanta REPA Luncheon Reminder (the Falcons – Hated Saints NFL Game Thursday night got me all messed up!!!)…

Anyhow we do not have a program for the Tuesday, December 12th Luncheon so bring a story and/or joke or you will be forced to listen to Virgil’s and mine again!!!

Want to give you a “Heads-Up” for the January 9th Luncheon though….

Jim Towne, son of Eastern Captain Paul Towne, will be presenting an A/V program on Captain Towne and his crew, about their Miracle Flight back in January 1974, where they immediately lost the 2nd engine on a L-1011 Two-Engine Ferry Flight taking off out of Mexico City….

You don’t want to miss it!!! (Hint! They never got above 400 feet!)

As usual we meet at the Piccadilly starting when it opens at 11:00 AM….

It is still on Godby Road, just East of Old National Highway…
